Titans coach Jeff Fisher dropped a bomb following Tennessee's 19-16 overtime loss to the Redskins. He said, injury or not, QB Vince Young has lost his starting job.

Young injured his thumb during the game - Fisher said it was a flexor tendon problem and that Young might need surgery - and though he warmed up as if he was going back in, Fisher never reinserted him.

As the Tennessean writes, Young abruptly left the stadium immediately following the Titans 19-16 overtime loss, tossing his shoulder pads into the crowd before exiting the field.

After he changed into street clothes, he emerged from the locker room, and though safety Michael Griffin, clad only in shorts, ran after him, he couldn’t catch Young.

What happened there?

Said Fisher: "I really don't know because he left the stadium."

The reason this story is scary because of Young's past personal problems.

In Sept. 2008, Young disappeared for a few hours the day after he was booed by fans and tried to take himself out of a game against the Jaguars. Fisher urged him back in, but a few plays later, he injured his knee. The next day, Young was scheduled for an MRI, but he no-showed, and Fisher grew worried enough about Young's well being to call the police.

Young's mother said then that he was "hurting inside and out" and that perhaps Young was considering giving up the game. Young's agent claimed then that the story about Young's possible emotional problems had been blown out of proportions, but still, that incident two years ago had to be in the back of some of his teammates' heads as Young walked out of the stadium.

So, how did Fisher feel about everything today?

According to Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean , he had "never seen Fisher so upset and willing to call out Vince Young."

UPDATED (5:26 p.m.): Some Fisher quotes from his post-game presser, via the Tennessean :

"Vince tore a flexor tendon in his thumb and I was not satisfied with his ability to control the ball so I stayed with Rusty (Smith)," Fisher said. "He never said to me he was OK and wanted to go back in, and I was told he was a little upset after, and I was also told he threw half his uniform in the stands.

"Clearly that is no way to respond, so we have some things we have to sort out with him. He may need surgery, and if that's the case, he is done for the year. If that's the case, Rusty is our guy."

UPDATED (7:23 p.m.): More info from the sources of Wyatt.

Apparently, there was a confrontation postgame between Young and Fisher. As Fisher gathered the team for the postgame talk, Young, who was dressing into street clothes, was muttering expletives. Fisher told him to pipe down, and as Young was set to leave the locker room, Fisher told him not to walk out on his teammates.

Young then informed the coach that he wasn't running out on his teammates. He was running out on Fisher.

That exchange almost certainly spells the end of Young's tenure in Tennessee.

UPDATED (7:29 p.m.): This just came across Vince Young's verified Twitter account.

"Just want to say I'm fine sorry to my teammates I just a cop ."

UPDATED (7:32 p.m.):
He also wrote that he "just want(s) to play."

Young and Fisher are both gone from the Titans. You're right that Jim Schwartz and the defense were the stong suit of the Titans in 2008, that's why Schwartz is head coach of the rising Detroit franchise now. But to say that Collins was "mediocre at best" is a misstatement. He turned in a strong performance, nothing spectatcular, but solid numbers, that in conjunction with a good running game from CJ2K and Lendale White provided a balanced attack. In 2009, with Schwartz gone, the defense underperformed and VY stepped up and looked like a solid QB, but that's the year CJ added 2K to his initials!  Last year the franchise failed to click and there was definate friction between the QB and HC that cost both of them their positions. Now Young and Collins are both backups behind a couple of NFL stars, Vick & Manning. Young is with the Eagles because Andy Reid knows he has potential and if Vick goes down VY fits nicely into that offense. You remarked that "Collins is a born loser" which is another misstatement. He's lead winning campaigns with multiple franchises and has matured over the course of 16 seasons in the NFL which explains the Colt's grabbing him as a short term backup for Manning. It's ironic, if you look at his early career with the Panthers and how he ended up leaving that franchise it's a similar situation to the one VY finds himself in, a lack of maturity and poor off field decisions. I'm a fan of VY and expect him to end up starting somewhere in a season or two, my guesses being Oakland or Miami.

Oh, and Ms Pinkturd, Ma'am, before I forget. Since when does a coach change require rebuilding the team. The Titans are one of the youngest teams out there. The only thing that requires rebuilding is your brain, sweetheart.

I just hope one day you grow up and become a man, or woman, I am not sure really what you are. To me you sound like you are PMSing. So have a nice day Ms. Pinkturd. You have the intelect of a retarted fire ant.

You know what else I'll say is you're a hypocrite.  Your name supports Steve McNair and Vince Young is in the same mold... same style of play.  McNair sat on the bench and learned for awhile, but Vince has been thrust in pretty quickly.  The reason I hate you and what you stand for is you're not willing to give anyone a chance.  Things go bad and you just want to throw away everything that's made the Titans what they are.  Vince wins games and Fisher is the catalyst.  If you really think another coach will come in and do better with the personnel and roster as it is now, you're a sorry sack of shit dumbfuck.

Not only will Fisher have to go, but 60% of the roster because he built that team to his style.  So fuck you idiot.

If Fisher goes, the Titans will be rebuilding for the next 5 years in hopes of even making the playoffs.

Pinktoad you are a classless turd. I judge coaches and players by the one thing that matters most in professional sports and that is success. If you are telling me that you sit there dissect game tape whith coach Fisher, maybe while holding hands, then so be it. I never said that Fisher is not a good coach. I just think that the Titans need to go in a different direction at HC. But hey, what am I saying? You are the footbal expert, right Pinkturd? What are you actually trying to say with your comment???? If you subtract the insults, your reply is absolutely meaningless. You are just a little Punk, Pinkturd. So go and crawl a little deeper into Fisher's bung hole. Happy Holidays you moron.
